Mental Mechanics: The Gift of Presence

Repeat after me,
“The future is made up of
a series of NOWs”

I won’t take much of your time. I want you to log off and live your life to the fullest today.

I recently spoke at the national wellness conference about elite performance and wellness.

In my workshop, I mentioned that the ability to be present is one of the greatest performance and wellness skills we can ever learn.  This is not a new concept. People have been discussing this for thousands of years.

I also talked about something that I want you to consider.

We have all been guilty of getting lost in dreams of the future. Allowing our minds to wander away from the present, imagining (hood and bad) future outcomes.

While it is important to understand where you want to go, our future doesn’t really exist. We are never guaranteed anything in life, including the future.

None of us can predict what will happen later today, or tomorrow, or a year from now.

Instead of worrying about the future, or focusing on what we hope will happen next, think about how you get there.

Each “now,” every single moment we live is a chance to shape what comes next. How we manage each moment will determine our direction. Each moment is where our power lies, where we have a sense of control.

The future is literally made up of a series of NOWs.

If we cannot learn to be present with each one, looking beyond them, we miss them. We will never get those moments back.

Today, get an idea of what you want in life, but then try to embrace each moment along the way.

You will most likely find that the journey matters more than the outcome.
